For Our Son

This is a glimpse into what life after loss looks like. Our site is dedicated to our son, Sydney Allen; it’s our way of celebrating his short life. He is forever in our hearts. We started this site almost a year after he passed away.

Our Story

My husband and I have been married for 10 years and we were so happy to start our family. We were blessed with a son right away, he was our first child. He passed away in utero a few days past 40 weeks and was stillborn on Oct. 1, 2010. After experiencing a healthy pregnancy, the doctors think that inflammation in the placenta took my son’s life.

Before this happened to us, I never knew much about stillbirth. I never thought this could happen to me...yet here I am without my son in my arms. I didn’t know that in the U.S., stillbirth claims the lives of 70 babies a day. I know our story is not unique and there are so many other families dealing with this loss. There is risk in every pregnancy because no one can predict if they will have an umbilical cord accident, placental problem or any other potential problem. I wish the medical community talked openly about stillbirth, to look for signs of distress and the importance of kick counts.
